This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We are committed to handling personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). By using our website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Our approach in short

Somalatha is a community events calendar. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect personal information from you simply for browsing the site. The only time we collect personal information is when you voluntarily provide it to us, for example, by submitting an event or contacting us about an event. We use that information only to respond to and process your request.

2. Information we collect

a) Information you give us voluntarily

We collect personal information only when you choose to send it to us through one of our forms, such as:

• Submitting an event: for example your name, email address, phone number, and the details of the event you want listed.
• Claiming an event or contacting us as an organiser: for example your name, email address, phone number, and the organisation you represent.
• General enquiries: any information you include when you contact us.

You control what you send us. If you don't use these forms, we don't collect this information.

b) Event information from public sources

To build our community calendar, we compile factual details about events that are already publicly available on the internet. Where an event involves a named organiser, that name may appear as part of the public event information. If you are an organiser and would like an event listing changed or removed, please contact us (see section 9).

c) Website analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC ("Google"), to understand how many people visit the site and which events are viewed, so we can improve the service. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies and may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you interact with the site.

This information is processed by Google on our behalf, and Google may store and process it on servers outside Australia. We use this data in aggregate to understand usage trends, for example how many times an event page has been viewed. You can find out how Google handles this data in Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across websites by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

3. How we use your information

We use the personal information you provide only for the purpose you provided it, namely to:

• Review, verify, and process an event you have submitted.
• Respond to an event claim, organiser enquiry, or general message.
• Contact you if we need to clarify details about your submission.

We do not use your personal information for advertising or marketing, and we do not sell it.

4. Disclosure of your information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

We do not disclose your personal information to third parties for their own purposes. We do, however, use trusted service providers who process information on our behalf and under our instructions, solely to operate the site, for example:

• An email delivery provider that routes the messages sent through our forms to us.
• A website hosting provider.
• Google Analytics, which processes website usage data (such as page views) on our behalf, as described in section 2(c). Google's use of this data is governed by its own privacy policy.

These providers act on our behalf to help us operate and improve the site. We may also disclose information where required to do so by law.

5. Storage and security

Information submitted through our forms is sent to us by email and is used to process your request. We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep personal information only for as long as needed to fulfil the purpose it was provided for, and then take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

6. Cookies

Our site uses cookies, including cookies set by Google Analytics (see section 2(c)) to measure how the site is used. These help us understand visitor numbers and which events are viewed. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using the tools linked in section 2(c). Disabling cookies will not stop you from browsing events, but some usage measurement will not occur.

7. Children's privacy

Somalatha is a general community calendar and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Links to other sites

Our site links to external sites (such as event source pages and organiser pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.

9. Accessing, correcting, or removing your information

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are an organiser and want an event listing amended or taken down, you can also let us know at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it was last changed. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
